Kenya is one of the African countries with the highest mobile phone penetration. An average Kenyan will often own more than two sim cards, at least one smartphone, and sometimes a feature phone (commonly referred to as kaduda, kifinyilio, or kabambe).
Below are all the 50 popular mobile brands in Kenya:
- Cherry Mobile
Of all the listed mobile phone brands, I have owned a few: BlackBerry, Samsung, Infinix, Itel, Nokia, Huawei, and some Chinese phone that had TV support back in 2008.
It should be noted that the phone brands mentioned above do not have an equal share in the market. Some have an excellent market share while some are struggling to cope and on the verge of exiting the Kenya market.
Other mobile phone manufacturers like Samsung and Tecno have a huge market share because they have a product for every type of customer – low-end, medium range, and high-end products.
Android users account for more than 85% of smartphone users in Kenya. This can be attributed to the fact that there are so many Android mobile phones that are affordable to most Kenyans.
According to this source, in March 2022, Tecno had the biggest market share followed by Samsung and Infinix at 23%, 18%, and 12%, respectively.
Oppo has 7.2%, Huawei 5.7%, Nokia 4.6%, itel 3.3%, while the rest fight for the remaining market share.
